Ryan Moore: Thoughts on my six rides on day two of the Newmarket Cambridgeshire meeting
Friday sees Ryan back at Newmarket with another six rides on day two of the Cambridgeshire meeting. Here is the Betfair Ambassador's exclusive verdict on the chances of each...
"He has gone up 4lb for his second to Quebee over this trip at Goodwood last time, but that is fair enough with the winner taking a Listed race at Sandown next time. Looks to hold as good a chance as most in here in what is obviously a competitive race."
13:55 Newmarket - Muffri' Ha
This is obviously a very competitive and deep field for a fillies' Listed race, and I'd be one of many with a shot at winning it, though Ashadihan and Promising Run look the two to beat on form. She looked to find 1m2f too far at Sandown last time and reverts to the trip over which she had earlier finished a good fourth at this level at Haydock. She could run well and finish sixth here, but she was fourth in this race last year and has an each-way chance, especially with her stable going so well.
14:30 Newmarket - Shall We
We have won this race a couple of times in recent years, and if Shall We returns to her best then she definitely an each-way chance. She has been given a good break after a very disappointing run on the July course a couple of months ago, where the ground was too quick for her. Although the form didn't work out that well, her three-length fifth in the Ribblesdale entitles her to respect in this grade. That said, it looks a very strong race for its type, with the likes of Journey and Beautiful Romance in the race - though that pair do carry penalties - but my filly could be competitive, especially if we get rain. The softer, the better for her.
15:05 Newmarket - Exmouth
We obviously all have Fair Eva to worry about but there are some decent and improving fillies in their own right in here, and Exmouth is certainly one of those. The bare form of her Yarmouth win may not amount to much in Group-race terms but there was a lot to like about the way in which she travelled and picked up after a slow start to get up close home there. The extra furlong will suit her and in fact I rode her dam, Havant, to win the Oh So Sharp Stakes here over this trip at two. She is in good order at home but, for all her potential, she clearly has an awful lot to find to trouble Fair Eva, and a fair bit with a couple of others in here as well.
15:40 Newmarket - Cougar Mountain
Only six runners but not a lot between them on official ratings. He was a little disappointing in a first-time visor at Doncaster recently, so his normal cheekpieces are back on here. He hasn't really delivered on his 2015 promise this season but he has run some good races in defeat in Group 3 company in Ireland, finishing a close second in two, and at his best he has the ability to go close here. There will be pace to aim at with Gifted Master in the race, too, and a lot of his better efforts have come in small fields.
16:50 Newmarket - Via Serendipity
Didn't look to go on from his promising third in the Convivial when occupying the same placing at Yarmouth last time. But the bare form of that York run - maybe even the Yarmouth run, too - entitles him to go close here, and you would hope that there is more to come from this strong-traveller as he gains experience.
17:55 Newmarket - Dawn Mirage
This will be the first time I have sat on him, but he certainly looks to be coming here in good form. He has gone up 4lb for his second to Quebee over this trip at Goodwood last time, but that is fair enough with the winner taking a Listed race at Sandown next time. Looks to hold as good a chance as most in here in what is obviously a competitive race.
