The Betfair Ambassador has six rides at Newmarket on Saturday including Hermosa in a tight-knit Group 1 affair...
"She was clearly very much in the groove earlier in the season, winning her Classic here and then putting up a great performance to win at the Curragh."
13:40 - Gallic
She faced a stiff enough task at the weights in Listed company at York last time and she is only 2lb higher then when winning at Chelmsford the time before, so she has chances. The ground could be an issue though, unless it dries out a fair amount.
Much to improve on
14:50 - Shoshone Warrior
On the bare form, he obviously didn't show a great deal on his debut behind Mogul at the Curragh but he shaped pretty well and everyone knows how much Aidan's improve for a run. He is a Galileo half-brother to a Middle Park winner in Astaire, who handed soft well, so it is reasonable to expect a much improved performance from him here, though I hear a few are fancied in this.
Has a chance in competitive race
15:25 - Hermosa
She was clearly very much in the groove earlier in the season, winning her Classic here and then putting up a great performance to win at the Curragh. She didn't run to that level on her next two starts, most obviously at Goodwood, but she was much more like her spring self when second to Iridessa in the Matron Stakes last time.
Hopefully, she will come forward from that after her mid-season lull, on ground she will enjoy, and I think she has a pretty good chance. But this is clearly a very tight-knit Group 1 in which four of five have realistic winning claims.
16:00 - Vatican City
He is a full-brother to a host of Group 1 winners, including Gleneagles, so hopefully he has a big future in front of him. Whether he will be sharp enough to win at the first time of asking here, we shall see. As it stands, I don't know how he has been going at home.
16:35 - Maybe Today
She did well very well to win off a four-month break at Doncaster last time, and a 4lb rise for that looks okay. This is a race with more depth on different ground, but she does have form on good to soft and she clearly has a fair chance in a competitive handicap.
Unknown on this ground
17:10 - Clerisy
I liked her when she won here in April but she didn't fire at York the following month. She has obviously not been seen since but she has been going okay at home, and she was winning after a similar lay-off here earlier in the season. I'd like to think this half-sister to Expert Eye could be better than her current mark of 85, though the easier ground is an unknown.
