Competitive mark and yard are flying
13:50 - Ventura Knight
He has been slowly easing down the weights for running some fair races of late, so hopefully he is back on a mark from which he can be competitive, and a draw in three is fine if he has the early tactical pace to take a position. His only start on this track to date saw him finish last but his stable are obviously flying and he has each-way claims on his second at Newmarket in June, a race that worked out pretty well.
Highly regarded colt but Pinatubo the one to beat
14:25 - Lope Y Fernandez
He was very impressive on his debut at the Curragh and he was one of our main hopes going into Royal Ascot. He ran very well to finish second in the Chesham, but unfortunately he bumped into an outstanding performance from Pinatubo, who re-opposes here. He clearly has his work cut out to reverse the form with the winner, without factoring in the likes of Mystery Power and the placed horses from the July Stakes, but hopefully he has improved since Ascot and we have had some success in this race in recent years. It looks a pretty good renewal, but we do rate our horse, for all he needs to step forward.
In good form and should go well
15:00 - Zaaki
This looks a very close-knit race but Zaaki is one of the higher-rated horses and he comes here in peak form, though an outside draw in 10 could have been better. He has improved since being gelded, and was only just denied in this grade in the Summer Mile at Ascot last time, finishing clear of Suedois in third. He should go well but you can make a case for a fair few in this.
Tough task with Stradivarius in the line-up
15:35 - Southern France
Stradivarius is the obvious one to beat in here - like Enable, he just finds a way to get the job done day in, day out - but Dee Ex Bee and Cross Counter aren't that far behind him. Our three horses have to come on markedly to mix it with those, but Southern France got within ¾ length of Stradivarius at York and ran pretty well at the Curragh last time and hopefully he will be suited by his first attempt at 2m.
Yard in great form and enjoy this meeting
16:10 - Fuwayrit
I don't know much about him. But the stable is in great form - and have had plenty of juvenile success at this meeting in the past, including with newcomers - and the fact that I am on him hopefully is a sign that he has been showing a fair bit at home. But we will see. A couple of the raced horses set a fair standard to aim at, though.
Decent chance in an open race
17:15 - Clara Peeters
I haven't ridden her before but she comes here after a career-best win at Newmarket last time, and she is only a touch higher in the weights. She is lightly-raced and has a decent chance in an open race.
