After a very successful week at Glorious Goodwood Ryan Moore dashes to Deauville for one ride on Sunday afternoon and here you can read the Betfair Ambassador's exclusive thoughts on the filly Alice Springs...
"This race has plenty of depth - I haven't even mentioned the French Oaks third Volta stepping back in trip - but I am very happy with my filly, and the better the ground the more I would like my chances."
She is one those horses that keeps on surprising you. She raced seven times as a juvenile and made her seasonal reappearance in heavy ground in early April, so it says a lot about her toughness, and Aidan's handling of her, that she appeared to put up a career-best in the Falmouth Stakes last time.
I know you can possibly pick holes in the form, with the favourite Usherette underperforming and the third running moderately at Goodwood on Friday, but she really impressed me at Newmarket and is definitely still improving. And she deserved that Group 1 win after a string of good efforts at that level, including when meeting trouble in running when third to Qemah in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.
I am not sure if I would have beaten the French filly with a clear run that day as she won well, but it would have been close.
You have to greatly respect the winner here, and she is probably the one to beat. But the likes of Esoterique and Amazing Maria have chances, too, if they return to their peaks, while Lumiere came back to her juvenile best in style in Listed company last time. This is a lot tougher, though.
