Santa Anita is the venue for this year's renewal of the Breeders' Cup and Ryan Moore has three rides for Aidan O'Brien on the first day of the two-day meeting...
"I don't think the longer trip and quicker ground will be any issue for him, and he has a lot going for him, with the exception of his wide draw."
- Ryan Moore on Arizona
Has ability to figure but draw not so good
20:12 - King Neptune
To say that we haven't got lucky with the draw on Friday would be something of an understatement, and being handed 11 of 12 in a 5f race around here tells its own story. It's a shame because he was a horse that I thought was primed to go well, and he still might. He is a horse with plenty of experience under his belt and he comes here after a career-best fourth in the Middle Park last time. That was obviously a massive step forward from his previous starts but there seems no reason to doubt its validity - he had very good horses either side of him at the line - and forcing tactics seem to suit him well. It's all about the start for him here, because he certainly has the ability to figure, with a decent run, after what he did at Newmarket last time.
Lots going for him but draw again not so good
20:52 - Arizona
He has a very big form chance. His Coventry win earlier in the season obviously marked him out as a high-class operator but I thought he ran a huge race when second to Pinatubo in the Dewhurst, giving the leading juvenile his toughest race to date and pulling well clear of me on Wichita in third. I don't think the longer trip and quicker ground will be any issue for him, and he has a lot going for him, with the exception of his wide draw. There are a couple of interesting home 2yos but I think my colt is the right favourite and hopefully one that can overcome being housed in 12 of 14. His stablemate Fort Myers is no forlorn hope either but, again, his draw in 13 is hardly ideal.
Good start can see her challenge the places
22:12 - Tango
The mile trip is an unknown for her but tactical speed is just as important as stamina around this track. She has run well in both her starts in Group 1 company, including when fourth for me in the Cheveley Park, and she ran away with a Listed race over 6f at the Curragh last time. She wouldn't have as strong as form claims as some in here - though she ran Albigna to a head in her maiden in May, and has that Group 1 form - but she has each-way chances if getting a good early position from eight.
