14:05 York - Cristoforo Colombo
This is a competitive little race but my mount must have a decent chance at his best. Hasn't raced since finishing fifth in the Guineas back in May, and that run wasn't far off his classy juvenile form, which included a third in the Coventry, and a fourth for me in the Middle Park. Ideally, he may have preferred 7f on fast ground, but he has form with ease in the ground, so hopefully that won't be a negative. I think it would be if it got soft.
14:40 York - Havana Cooler
Has shaped as though this trip would suit, and none more so than a strong finishing third over 1m4f at Goodwood last time. Is obviously lightly raced, so with the prospect of more to come I think you have to give him a fair chance in this. If it does turn soft, he seemed to go ok on it on his debut.
15:15 York - Wilshere Boulevard
Ran below expectations in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot but showed much improved form to win a Group 3 on fast ground at The Curragh last time, beating a better-fancied stablemate it seems. I think they attributed the improvement partly to getting rid of the hood that he wore on his three previous starts, and that is again left off today. Has form with cut in the ground so has an obvious chance on his latest run, but there are plenty of decent juveniles up against him here, though Saayerr, the horse I rode to win the Richmond, will find life tough here with his 3lb penalty.
15:50 York - Opinion
You clearly can't be confident in a race such as this but I quite like the chances of Opinion. He is 8lb higher than when I rode him to win the Duke Of Edinburgh at Royal Ascot, but he probably deserved that rise after that convincing success, and things didn't go his way at Haydock last time, where he had horses on top of him all the way and he couldn't get a clear run. So his fifth there was quite promising in the circumstances. I am well drawn in five, I think the extra 2f will suit, and the ground should be ok for him as he has won on soft. I think he will go well.
16:25 York - Outer Space
He really impressed me when winning over 5f at Sandown on his debut, and I think he is probably the one to beat in here. I rode the second at Sandown, who is a promising sort in his own right, and Outer Space beat us convincingly and in the manner of a decent horse. There are horses in here with a better level of form so far, notably the likes of Excel's Beauty, but I am hopeful of a good show. Soft ground may be an issue though, as not many Acclamations like it.
17:00 York - Rockalong
Has been raised a harsh 1lb for his third at Newmarket last time, and I don't think he is obviously well-treated. But he is unexposed at this trip - his third last time was his first attempt at 1m2f - so hopefully there is more to come. Again, the ground may be an issue if it got testing.
