14:00 Goodwood - Stargazer
Hasn't been seen out since winning at Sandown in April but there have been no major issues with him, just a couple of niggly problems, and mostly we have been waiting for the right opportunity. The handicapper has been pretty harsh on him putting him up 9lb for that ½ length win but he did impress me there, and he is a horse that we hope could develop into a Group horse in time, though as he is already rated 96 that probably isn't saying a lot.
Fast ground would be a concern but I sat on him on Tuesday morning and he felt in good form. He does have a fair bit of potential but, as I always say, these 3yo handicaps are always ridiculously competitive.
14:35 Goodwood - Intelligence Cross
Only five runners, but four of these already boast some very strong form and the other, Waqaas, looked a decent prospect in his own right when winning at Doncaster.
I love my colt to bits. He impressed me when he won his Curragh maiden and is a big, strong, good-looking colt. He was slowly away at Newmarket, which surprised me, but he travelled well into the race and he just got run out of it by the more experienced Mehmas. We have a 3lb pull for ½ length with the winner here, and I hope and expect that there is more to come from my colt.
He is a good sprinting 2yo and, as a War Front, fast ground is no problem.
Blue Point bolted up from a fair sort by 11 lengths at Doncaster last time, and he could make us all go if he is as anywhere near as good as he looked there. But he meets a better class of opponent, and Ardad would also be a massive player if coming back to the form of his highly-impressive Windsor Castle win. This looks a very strong renewal.
15:10 Goodwood (No Ride)
This is a very deep race and you can make a case for most of these. I haven't ridden Sword Fighter in a race but I sat on him for the first time recently and was quite taken with him, and he certainly looks a progressive stayer on the track, and that is where it matters.
He gets plenty of weight as the only 3yo in the race; unfortunately, he carries 8st 5lb and, as a result, I don't ride him, or anything else in fact.
15:45 Goodwood - Yarrow
She won her maiden impressively for me last season and was proving disappointing prior to her second over 1m4f at Pontefract last time, which was much more like it. This isn't the strongest of races and hopefully she can go forward again on ground that will suit; I have sat on her at home recently and she seemed in good order. I think the extra 2f will be fine, too.
16:20 Goodwood - Rhododendron
I rode Amabilis to finish second on her debut at Newmarket and she is a good filly who could take a fair bit of beating here. But my filly ran equally as promisingly when second on her debut in a 7f Curragh maiden that is working out well with the third winning next time.
She is yet another beautifully-bred 2yo, being by Galileo out of Halfway To Heaven, who won the Nassau here, and she has to be a major contender. But I did like Amabilis first time up.
