Follow The Money: Baccarat a big play on the final day at Ascot

Ascot will be full to the rafters today

All three of today's selections come from the fantastic card at the final day of Royal Ascot.

"Baccarat put up a terrific effort last time out in a big field handicap at York and a 2lb rise does not seem overly harsh coming into this today."

Back Baccarat @ 14.013/1 in the 17:00 at Royal Ascot

We kick things off in the opener at Royal Ascot, the 14:30 Chesham Stakes. Dick Whittington has been very easy to back all morning, opening up short enough at 2.942/1 his price has moved out to 3.6013/5. There are plenty of reasons for the drift, not least of which is the fact that 2.942/1 in a competitive two-year-old Listed race did look a very short price. Three runs so far this season have yielded just one win, which was the least competitive of those contests, and Dick Whittington was very disappointing on his second start when failing to confirm the promise of his debut when beaten at an Industry Starting Price of 2/7, albeit on heavy ground. Plenty in the race look open to vast improvement and many have solid form lines, with Wesley Ward's Crown The Kitten finishing second behind yesterday's runner up of the Albany Stakes. Leading trainer at Royal Ascot so far, John Gosden, also saddles the well-fancied Richard Pankhurst who looks to improve from his promising debut at Newmarket and he is very hard to rule out. With all these reasons in mind we are happy to take the Aidan O'Brien-trained colt on at 3.6013/5.

We move on to the 15:45 Hardwicke Stakes where Dandino has seen a small move in the market in from 11.521/2 in to 10.09/1. Marco Botti's runner does seem to have a lot in his favour and we are quite keen to have him on side today. He rarely runs a bad race and had an excellent campaign in 2013, culminating in a close-up fifth in the Melbourne Cup over in Australia. His two previous runs at Ascot have earned him a victory and a second place, most recently last year in this very race when he found just Thomas Chippendale too good. He acts well on good to firm ground as that run showed, and there should be no worries about time off the track as he has a very good record fresh. A lot in his favour here today then to indicate he could run a big race and at a very tempting price.

We finish in the 17:00 where Richard Fahey's Baccarat has seen some support moving in from 18.017/1 in to 14.013/1. The gelding put up a terrific effort last time out in a big field handicap at York and a 2lb rise does not seem overly harsh coming into this today. The high draws so far have proved the place to be in these handicaps, so he looks to be ideally placed for a bold effort from stall 27. Market principal Ninjago does not look ideally handicapped and there is an argument to be made that he is best caught fresh so he may be worth opposing and York Glory may not have an ideal draw from stall 11. That would leave the main opposition as Rocky Ground, Seeking Magic, Baccarat and Absolutely So to battle it out on the stand side and with the ground not a worry for our selection we are hopeful he can come out on top today.
