If Yeoman wins I'm reaching for the spirits
19:50 Kempton - LAY - Yeoman Spirit (Forecast 3.25)
Today's race is one of the weakest maidens I have ever seen, it is filled with some of British racing's most notorious nags. Yeoman Spirit trained by Andrew Balding and ridden by Martin Dwyer is forecast favourite.
But this horse is one of the worst excuses for a favourite that I have ever witnessed. He's a 4-year-old giving weight to 3yos who have more scope for improvement. He was unplaced on his only previous run on polytrack and unplaced on his only previous run at a right-handed track and he has the worst of the draw in stall one. This is his first try over 1 mile 4 furlongs and he is a doubtful stayer on pedigree who is likely to drop right out of this in the last quarter mile.
Trainer Andrew Balding is 0-11 with horses aged above four at the track in 2007 and as I can't see Yeoman Spirit improving that record I shall be laying him.
Act Three and River Deuce are the clear form choice's to win this race and should both go well but it may well be won by the Fanshawe newcomer Dart who will not need to be anything special to give this field a good old fashioned beating. My bet though is the lay of the Yeoman Spirit.
