We experienced the full range of emotions last week but it ended on the right note - a frustrating start culminating with a fantastic Sunday.
Jazz Legend went to Wolverhampton on Tuesday where he ran very free which ruined his chances of running a big race. He ended up finishing fifth, but that didn't tell the tale.
I then went up the road to Uttoxeter for an evening meeting where both Skilled and Sky Of Stars finished in the runners-up spots. I was delighted with the pair of them, but still frustrated to come away without a winner. The horse which beat Skilled was trained by Charlie Longsdon and consequently won again at Stratford on Sunday so at least the form has been franked.
It was a quiet few days for the team with no runners until Sunday when we ran two at Southwell and one at Stratford, landing a pair of wins and another second. It was an unreal buzz to train my first double with Pershing winning a Southwell seller very well and Sky Of Stars triumphing at my local track (Stratford-upon-Avon). Varene de Vauzelle was very unlucky not to make it a treble for the yard with a bad jump at the last costing him his chance.
This week's likely runners...
Sevilla has been very disappointing since coming over to the UK and she again finished out of the frame at Wolverhampton on Monday night, though she ran with credit from a bad draw in 12 and was just pipped for third on the line. However she must leave her previous runs behind her if she's to get competitive in future races, even in low grades.
Wednesday will be my next runner where I think Knight Commander will go to Uttoxeter. He has had a couple of OK runs in novice hurdles and hopefully he will be better suited to handicaps.
On Thursday my first winner Dove Mountain will go to Leicester. He's in good form and it would be great if he could defy a 6lbs rise in the weights as he is family owned!
My weekend plans are a bit up in the air. Cliffside Park looks as if he may go to Stratford on Sunday for a seller along with Skilled who will run in a novice handicap chase. His last race worked out well so it would be fantastic for the Olly Murphy Racing Club if he could go one better. Hongkong Adventure is also entered in a handicap there.
It would be amazing if next Sunday was as good as last!
Have a good week.
