Olly Murphy: The thoughts on my three Wednesday runners at Fakenham
It's a trip to Fakenham on Wednesday afternoon for Olly Murphy where the Betfair Ambassador will saddle three runners on the card, all with decent winning chances...
"There are a lot of positives for this horse and it's fair to say I'll be disappointed if he doesn't go very close."
- Olly Murphy on Skandiburg
In good form at home but favourite will be hard to beat
13:00 - The Very Thing
JP and MV Magnier are among the owners of this fine son of Getaway and his only run for us was in an all-weather bumper at Newcastle back in April where he finished fourth. Although he was sent off a short price favourite that day I wasn't disappointed with his performance as it showed plenty of promise as he was a bit green when they really began to race off the bend for home. He has been in good form lately and has schooled very well.
I have been praying for a bit of rain for most of mine but this fellow is one that really appreciates a sound surface underfoot, something he'll get here. Looking through the form book though I thought Didtheyleaveuoutto, who was considered good enough to run in the champion bumper - where he was only 14L off the winner - would take a bit of beating. Our guy is ready to do himself justice but I'm not sure we can beat the favourite.
Improvement still likely despite the hike in weights
15:30 - Beau Sancy
He is two for two since joining us from Kenny Johnson and has gone up 15lbs in the process. He obviously has benefited from the wind-op we gave him before his first run and seems to just do enough in his races. While he has gone up the 15lbs I still think there is improvement in him and I think Fakenham will suit him. He has just the four other runners to cope with here and should again do himself justice.
'Very good horse' should go close
16:00 - Skandiburg
Skandiburg had a good run when fourth in a decent Warwick bumper before joining us from the stable of Dan Skelton. He been working like a very good horse and does everything very easily at home. I think the ground will be fine and the track should suit him well.
This is a bumper for conditional and amateur jockeys so our stable conditional, Fergus Gregory, who claims 5lbs, will be on board. There are a lot of positives for this horse and it's fair to say I'll be disappointed if he doesn't go very close.
Best Chance of the Day
I like The Very Thing but unfortunately, he has the horse of Nicky Henderson's - Didtheyleaveuoutto - to cope with. If that one has an off day then our guy won't be far away. Beau Sancy is on the upgrade while Skandiburg looks the part at home and probably represents our best chance on what could be a good day for the yard.
