Joseph O'Brien: A pair of aces to run at Navan on Saturday

Joseph O'Brien
Dark Vader is Joseph's one to watch this weekend

It's a quieter Saturday of Betfair Ambassador Joseph O'Brien on Saturday, but the two he has at Navan both have a chance...

"The softer ground is an unknown, but his pedigree would give some encouragement that he should be ok on it."

One to watch

Navan 14:50 - Dark Vader

Dark Vader debuted in what looked a strong maiden at the Curragh a fortnight ago. Arizona won the race and looks a proper Royal Ascot prospect and plenty shaped well in behind him. I was happy with what he did.

He was sharp at the gates and showed pace to get into a nice spot, he just couldn't cope with the more experienced winner and the lack of a previous run told on him close home. Like all of ours, I would be hopeful that he can come forward nicely from his first start. The softer ground is an unknown, but his pedigree would give some encouragement that he should be ok on it. I'd be hopeful he can improve enough to be good and competitive.

Shakespear's solid

16:00 - Shakespear'sgalley

Shakespear'sgalley has really turned the corner this year. He only showed a bit of promise last year, but seemed to improve for his winter break and has returned to win two of his three starts in handicaps this season.

He was quite impressive at Down Royal last time and while he has gone up 9lb for that, the runner-up gave the form a bit of a boost at Leopardstown last night. The return to this longer trip should be a help to him and hopefully he's improving fast enough to defy his rise in the weights. He looks to have a strong chance.
