Betfair Ambassador Hugo Palmer discusses his four Saturday runners, including two in action on the final day of Newmarket's July Festival...
"Jousi is a nicely-bred filly by Dubawi, although not the biggest. I've been debating whether to start her off at six or seven furlongs, and hope I'm justified in choosing the longer trip."
Ascot 13:40 - Curiosity
I thought Curiosity might be a Chesham Stakes contender and, while he couldn't justify our confidence on debut at Newbury, he shaped very well and appreciated the stiff track when winning over six furlongs at Newcastle on his second start. He is in great form at home and will benefit from the longer trip, although he does have to concede a penalty to his rivals, which is never easy.
Newmarket 13:45 - Jousi
Jousi is a nicely-bred filly by Dubawi, although not the biggest. I've been debating whether to start her off at six or seven furlongs, and hope I'm justified in choosing the longer trip. She's out of a mare called Soon who won a listed race over an extended mile for Aidan O'Brien, and is closely related to Derby runner-up and sire Walk In The Park. She's working away nicely, but as a two-year-old debutant, it goes without saying that she will benefit from the experience.
Newmarket 14:15 - Alouja
Alouja has been consistent in maidens but it's not been easy to find her a winning opportunity in such events. This is something different, though, and I'm hoping that getting weight all round on her handicap debut will give her a chance, so it's a case of fingers crossed.
York 15:40 - Encrypted
Like Curiosity, we fancied Encrypted on debut, but he saw too much daylight from a wide draw, and was too free as a result. He made amends in good style at Kempton, and has a penalty to carry for that win. He's got an entry in the Gimcrack over this track and trip next month, but so do several of his rivals, and it will take a smart performance to concede weight.
