14:00 - A tightly-knit handicap to start the card with THE LACEMAKER (4) the selection. She went close from her current mark over C&D two starts back and could be dangerous again, especially if allowed to dominate. Poyle Charlotte should remain competitive, while Oh So Sassy may fare best of the Chis Wall-trained pair.
14:30 - AQUANURA (2) stepped up on his debut run pitched in quite deep at Chelmsford 18 days ago, and with further progress on the cards, he can put his experience to the best possible use. This looks to be another above-average maiden at the track though, with newcomers Royal Meeting, Victory Day, Spokesman and Frederickbarbarosa all making appeal.
15:00 - SOVEREIGN GRANT (12) offered plenty to work on despite obvious signs of greenness starting out at Sandown 19 days ago and is just the type to take a big leap forward. He could well be the answer, but the market may help assess several very interesting newcomers, notably Awe, Snow Storm, Lehoogg and Azano.
15:35 - WINTER LIGHTNING (9) confirmed herself a smart filly when third in the Group 3 Atalanta Stakes at Sandown earlier this month and she should be able to build further on that now back up in trip. Chain of Daises is respected following an easy victory in a listed event at Salisbury last month. Sheikha Reika remains with potential and is another to note.
16:05 - CROQUE MONSIEUR (4) is on the up now handicapping and looked ahead of his mark still after an 11 lb rise for Chelmsford when second at Kempton last time, doing well under the circumstances to not falter having gone very hard in pursuit of the front runner. That form leaves him 2 lb clear of the field on weight-adjusted ratings here and, with the prospect of more to come after just five starts, he looks sure to take all the beating as he attempts to build on trainer William Haggas' fine record in this race (two winners from last five renewals).
16:40 - Only fourth on his most recent outing here, COURTSIDE (7) is better judged on previous promise as things didn't go his way at all, racing wide on the home turn and drifting back to the rear of the field, leaving him with a mountain to climb when the pace eventually quickened, doing well to make up the ground he did over a furlong out before edging left and flattening out. His earlier third at Newbury sets a clear standard on form here and he remains open to more improvement, so expect him to play a bigger part today.
17:10 - POYLE VINNIE (4) had excuses at Haydock last time out and he's been knocking on the door in big handicaps all summer. He gets optimal conditions today under a 7 lb apprentice who looks good value for his claim and is taken to win an intriguing sprint.
17:40 - QAARAAT (6) is taken to spring a surprise in the finale. He has had excuses the last twice (ground at Haydock and draw at Chester) and a return to quick ground over this trip should see him go very close.
