There are plenty of handicaps tonight at Wolverhampton, which makes it an ideal venue for Thursday's Placepot attempt.
"With the season that Ruth Carr is enjoying, it would be a surprise if she were not able to get something from Ben Hall sooner or later..."
18:15- Phyllis Maud was perhaps unlucky not to make it two wins from three starts for Simon Crisford when denied racing room in the closing stages at Bath last time out, and he should go close here in a less competitive race, with a top amateur jockey, who has ridden a winner for the yard already this season, in the saddle.
18:45- Current favourite Warm Order looks one to take on here, being drawn fairly high, facing competition for the lead, and operating on a career-high mark. Plenty of these are coming here with something to prove, though, and finding opposition to the favourite is not that easy, but Classic Image went close under Silvestre de Sousa over C&D from this mark two starts back, and could be worth including despite his wide draw. Saffire Song perhaps found six furlongs at this track stretching her stamina two starts ago, and also looks worth including now back at this trip and with a good draw.
19:15- Ben Hall is now on a 24lb lower mark than at the start of this season, and he is thrown in here if managing to recapture any of the form he showed for John Gosden at two and three. With the season that Ruth Carr is enjoying, it would be a surprise if she were not able to get something from Ben Hall sooner or later, and with the prospect of an easy lead in this moderate contest, a better performance could be in the offing. Minister of Fun remains with just one standout performance in his career thus far, but his yard have been in better form in recent weeks, and with Silvestre de Sousa on for the first time we could see a better run this evening.
19:45- Gothic Empire's maiden win over this C&D was impressive, and he is worth another chance now returned to the all-weather, after perhaps doing too much too soon at Sandown last time out. For Shia And Lula's last two victories have come over this C&D, and he looks worth including with George Baker on-board, back down to his last winning mark.
20:15- Fool to Cry showed plenty of promise on debut at Leicester in June, and with her trainer Roger Varian generally improving his two-year-olds from their first to second outings, she looks banker material in this maiden after a short break.
20:45- Jaiyana has a decent pedigree and did not look the finished article when fourth over C&D in her second maiden start, and with her subsequent effort at Southwell easily forgiven she looks one of the more interesting types in the race on her handicap debut. Bonds Gift is capable fresh and remains lightly-raced in this sphere, she is also worth including for Placepot purposes in the hope that they go a good gallop.
