Timeform on Victory Angel

17:30 - VEXED (2) failed to progress as expected when stepped up in trip for his reappearance at Yarmouth last month, but he shaped as if the run would bring him on, and it would be no surprise if he got back on an upward curve now switching to handicaps. The way he shaped on his final two-year-old start at Nottingham certainly marked him out as one who should have more to offer over middle-distances this term, and that form was given a major boost when the runner-up, King of Change, filled the same spot in the 2000 Guineas. On that basis, an opening mark of 73 looks potentially very lenient, and this looks a good opportunity for him to get off the mark, with the fine form of the David Simcock yard an ongoing recommendation.

18:00 - Not much in the way of previous form to go here, but the obvious one for Placepot purposes is THEORY OF TIME (11), who is bred to be speedy and represents the Charlie Appleby yard that has saddled three winners from its last four debutants (the loser having been very well backed in a hot-looking York event last week). Fashion Free is another hailing from a stable that has done tremendously well with its newcomers, while Love Love can be expected to improve plenty from her Salisbury run and completes the shortlist.

18:30 - THE TIN MAN (1) has been a fantastic servant to the James Fanshawe yard over the years, with his nine career wins including three at the highest level - the latest of which came in the Sprint Cup at Haydock last September - as well as two wins in this race (2016 and 2018). Admittedly, his attempt to take his career tally to double digits is made tougher by him having to concede weight all round here, but he still sets the standard on weight-adjusted ratings and clearly thrives in these conditions, so there is no reason why he shouldn't mount another bold bid for a yard that continues in good heart (73.8% of horses running to form).

19:00 - VICTORY ANGEL (3) clearly isn't the most straightforward, but he didn't do much wrong when fourth on his reappearance at Newmarket, travelling strongly and holding every chance before his effort flattened out in the final furlong, finding only three who had race fitness on their side too strong. That still represented a most encouraging start to life with Robert Cowell, who has excelled with similar recruits in the past, and it is surely only a matter of time before he takes advantage of his sliding mark, now only 2 lb higher than when recording his last win at Yarmouth in August 2017.

19:30 - By Kingman and out of a five-furlong winner at two, DIVINE SPIRIT (8) leaps off the page and can be another winning newcomer for Charlie Appleby, in a minor event that was won by the classy Arabian Queen in 2014. Pink Sands and Company Minx also make plenty of appeal first-time-out, while Ocasio Cortez was disappointing on her most recent outing at Wolverhampton, but looks best of those with previous experience if building on the promise of her debut fourth (beaten less than a length) at Doncaster.

20:00 - OCEAN PARADISE (9) shaped encouragingly when second on her debut at Newbury last month, form that could hardly have worked out better with the winner Raise You following up in a listed event at Newmarket on Saturday and plenty of others improving to open their accounts next-time-out. Entitled to progress further in her own right, Ocean Paradise would appear to hold obvious claims of doing likewise in this concluding leg of the Placepot, well clear on weight-adjusted ratings with the booking of Ryan Moore catching the eye. Of the remainder, Distant Image and Quiet Note are enticing newcomers for Godolphin and need monitoring closely in the betting.
