Wincanton Placepot: Sunday March 22

Paul Nicholls has some strong chances at Wincanton today
Paul Nicholls has some strong chances at Wincanton today

Wincanton hosts an interesting card on Sunday and that is where we head for today's crack at the Placepot...

"His second to Bivouac on his stable debut is by far the best piece of form in the race and he is fully expected to win this race."

13:50 - San Benedeto looks impossible to oppose in the opener, his second to Bivouac on his stable debut is by far the best piece of form in the race and he is fully expected to win here.

14:20 - Water Wagtail went close at Market Rasen recently and looks feasibly well treated off just 2lb higher today, his C&D win last season also reinforces his claims in an open looking race with many having plenty to prove.

14:50 - Chance Taken ran a respectable third in a better race than this last time out and has been dropped 1lb for his effort, a reproduction of that would see him in the mix today. There is little else in the way of encouraging form from the majority of the other runners, so clearly a lot must be taken on trainer reputation. Reputations don't come much higher than those of the champion trainer Paul Nicholls, who saddles Mistress Mole here. Mistress Mole is a half-sister to high class chaser Mr Mole and is expected to benefit from first time blinkers on handicap debut, with talented claimer Sean Bowen also taking off a useful 5lb.

15:25 - Seaviper continues to improve, defying an 8lb rise in the weights to make it two on the bounce at Ludlow last time out, the faster ground will be of no inconvenience and he is fancied to go well again. Steel Summit completed a wide margin four-timer at the beginning of the year and he could be the biggest danger if resuming his progress after a break.

15:55 - Until Winning has a good chance if returning to the form of his Ludlow win, but has been disappointing since off this higher mark so is overlooked today. The selection instead is Paddy The Stout, second last time out to Village Vic who went on to frank that form with a respectable second yesterday at Newbury off a 5lb higher mark.

16:30 - Southfield Vic is another Nicholls horse impossible to oppose again today, boasting the best form in the race based on his handicap win over course and distance last month off a mark of 127. Sean Bowen is again utilised by Nicholls to take off a valuable 5lb from the weight he must give away to the majority of the field due to that win and he is fully expected to be in the places.
