With a win and a successful in-running play yesterday, Alan Dudman is looking for more good fortune at Brighton, Chester and Chelmsford on Wednesday, using the full array of Betfair products...
"There are two newcomers in the race, but Chelmsford is a tough surface and you need a really fit horse to win here, and with a good run under her belt, she won't meet anything as good as Victoria Pollard here."
16:10 Brighton - Serene Beauty
It's my first chance to unleash a lay on this column, and I'm against a Godolphin filly who runs at Brighton on Wednesday. The horse in question is Serene Beauty - who lines up in the 0-80 Handicap.
She obviously has a lot going for her. Hailing from a top yard, she's a full sister to Discourse and is open to plenty of improvement after winning her debut at Wolverhampton.
That was a poor Maiden though. The second is exposed and beatable, the third has got turned over in a race at Catterick and the fourth was holding an official rating in the 40s. There's more on her plate here with Goring, Cosmic Ray and Lu's Buddy (from an in-form yard). All of those have more experience, and this is an awkward venue for a once-raced horse.
15:10 Chester - Buthelezi
It goes without saying a low draw for the Chester Cup is a must, and most certainly from an in-running point of view. I narrowed this down to Buthelezi and Zafayan, but we'll attempt to lock in a green book with the former.
He likes soft (and the forecast is for rain), he made all at Musselburgh last time to win a good handicap and he'll have no problem with the extra yardage here as he stays well.
Of course there will be a lot of jostling early, but from stall 4 he has a great pitch. From his price of 13.012/1, we'll try and get him to around 9.08/1 to gain a free bet.
Hughie Morrison's Star Rider put up a really nice performance on debut at Newbury over 10f recently, and she'll be a short price to land this Maiden in Essex.
She ran into Andrew Balding's Victoria Pollard on her first run, and that filly lines up in the Cheshire Oaks on Wednesday. Her dam is Starfala who stayed 1m6f really well (and also won twice on the AW). So there's hope she'll relish the new trip on Wednesday night.
