Timeform on Gabrial The Tiger

Back
GABRIAL THE TIGER - 14:40 Beverley

A competitive 12-runner handicap, though one who makes plenty of appeal is GABRIAL THE TIGER. He was kept busy on the all-weather over the winter, and while he failed to fire at times, he returned to form in no uncertain terms when fourth at Musselburgh just over a fortnight ago, deserving extra credit having been ridden too aggressively. Arriving here 2 lb lower than his last winning mark, he looks one to be interested in for the in-form Richard Fahey, with the booking of Paul Hanagan a big uplift (ridden by an apprentice last time out).

Lay
MAYDANNY - 16:40 Beverley

Considering his price tag as a yearling (1.35m guineas) and the fact that he represents the Mark Johnston team, it is no surprise to see that MAYDANNY is likely to go off as a short-priced favourite on debut for this novice contest. However, it is more than feasible to think that this son of Dubawi could well need the run on his first start, and considering that several of these have already shown some promising form, it could be worth taking him on at the prices with something else. Indeed, both Noble Prospector and Assembled have both shown something to work with of late, plus Kodiac Pride produced a promising debut at Lingfield in November before disappointing next time out, meaning it could be worth chancing that one of Maydanny's rivals proves too streetwise for him.

Smart Stat
OLIVER'S GOLD - 18:55 Cartmel

24% - Mark Walford's strike rate in summer

Having been badly out of form for the vast majority of the winter, OLIVER'S GOLD has found some consistency of late, and ran well to finish second for the fourth start on the bounce when filling the runner-up spot at Hexham earlier this month, sticking to his task well despite being forced to switch when making his challenge on the run-in, beaten less than a length. Arriving here off the same mark as last time, he looks capable of picking up a race of this nature sooner or later, and gets the vote to take this.
