Nick Shiambouros was on the mark yesterday when his best bet Big Brave Bob won. Nick returns with a couple of selections from Warwick and Newcastle...
"She clearly has more to offer, but I think the selection will improve past her on these better terms"
14:40 Warwick - Whatmore
Whatmore can cause the mild upset in this interesting novices' hurdle.
This gelding finished down the field behind Jenkins in a competitive handicap hurdle at Ascot in January. He had a squeak three flights from home, but was easily brushed aside and finished well beaten. He has been highly tried this year, and is best judged on his emphatic victory over Zalvados last October. I think he will find this field more to his liking and is fairly priced at 3.1511/5 on the Exchange.
Harefield is the short priced favourite at 2.0621/20. He has solid credentials, but has been turned over at short odds the last twice. The Alan King yard is out of form at present which is a concern. Not for me.
19:45 Newcastle - Playfull Spirit
Playfull Spirit should go close in this novice stakes.
This filly caught the eye on debut when finishing sixth to Fountain Of Time at Lingfield earlier this month. She made good progress a furlong from home, and kept on nicely in the closing stages. I think she is open to significant improvement and is reasonably priced at 5.04/1 on the Exchange.
Fountain Of Time heads the market at 2.35/4. She finished over five lengths ahead of the selection when making a winning debut, but does have to carry a penalty for that success. She clearly has more to offer, but I think the selection will improve past her on these better terms.
