Nick Shiambouros is back at Goodwood with two strong fancies from the superb card...
"This was a huge effort from this English 2,000 Guineas champion and I fully expect him to follow up in this mouthwatering race."
15:10 Goodwood - Galileo Gold
I will be unloading on Galileo Gold in this historic Group 1 event.
This brilliant miler beat The Gurkha in the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot. He took the lead a furlong from home, and pulled clear to win decisively. This was a huge effort from this English 2,000 Guineas champion and I fully expect him to follow up in this mouthwatering race.
He is currently priced at [3.3] and I have backed him accordingly.
The Gurkha is the current favourite at [2.82]. This smart performer finished second to Hawkbill in the Eclipse. He delivered a strong challenge a furlong from home, but the winner kept him at bay in determined fashion. I am a little surprised that he is so short in the market considering he has a bit to find with the selection on Royal Ascot form.
15:45 Goodwood - Global Applause
Global Applause should go close in this fascinating contest.
This colt finished fifth to Prince Of Lir in the Norfolk at Royal Ascot last month. He held every chance a furlong from home, but failed to quicken in the rain softened conditions and finished well beaten.
He had previously beaten Mehmas in a Listed race at Sandown in great style on fast ground. I think he is best judged on this piece of form and is attractively priced at [4.4] on the exchange.
The Last Lion is the favourite at [4.1]. This colt has done all his winning on soft and it remains to be seen if he is as effective on faster ground. He has the form in the book to take this, but his price is a little thin in my opinion.
