BREATH OF AIR - 13:50 Newmarket
Third in a Doncaster listed race on his final two-year-old start, BREATH OF AIR looked for a good way like he belongs in that sort of company, making the running and not disgraced in being unable to go with a pair of smart sorts (including the exciting winner San Donato) in the final furlong. It is that form that sees him lead the way on weight-adjusted ratings here, but his earlier efforts also have a solid look to them - he had Saturday's Greenham winner Mohaather back in second when winning his maiden - and there is plenty of scope for more improvement after only three starts, with an opening mark of 93 unlikely to prove his limit for the Charlie Hills yard that has made a healthy start to the new Flat season (six winners from last 29 runners).
ZAKOUSKI - 15:35 Newmarket
ZAKOUSKI immediately ran to a useful level in registering a two-length victory on his debut at Kempton in November, impressing both the eye and the clock as he recorded a rapid closing sectional, beating Headman who had created a deep impression when making a winning debut of his own. The Charlie Appleby yard - which won this race with subsequent Derby winner Masar 12 months ago - is blessed with any number of once-raced, promising types to go to war with in 2019, but Zakouski heads into this year with as much as potential as any and is fancied to cement his 2000 Guineas credentials with a second win from as many starts. Fellow Godolphin colt Royal Marine sets the standard judged on his French Group 1 success in October and is feared most ahead of the promising Skardu.
EL MISK - 16:45 Newmarket
By Dansili and out of South Africa's former Horse of The Year Igugu, EL MISK made plenty of appeal on paper and duly overcame inexperience to make a winning debut at Newcastle earlier this month, going in snatches but quickly asserting once finding top gear inside the final furlong. That form is already working out well, with the runner-up easily going one better at Pontefract last week, and El Misk looks sure to take all the beating if improving as expected for that outing here, with his Dante/Derby entries suggesting that he is held in high regard by his powerful stable. The Charlie Appleby-trained duo Jalmoud and One Vision are both promising types, with the former seemingly the stable first-string, while Doughan Alb is also accorded respect.
