Timeform's US team pick out their three best bets for Sunday night's stateside action...
"Transcend has not won in nearly a year but has run plenty of good races in the interim, and this represents his easiest task since..."
The forecast betting for the opener at Aqueduct (due off at 17:20 GMT) looks a bit lop-sided given the achievements of the main protagonists. In particular, the form shown by Jet Alley in finishing third at Belmont is no better, and may even be worse, than that shown by It's Perfect Too in finishing second on the same course. Both runs are backed up by decent times, but Jet Alley has been put in at a much shorter price than his rival and also has to face a couple of newcomers who would not need to be out of the ordinary to make their mark at this level. A lay of Jet Alley is recommended.
Pick of the races at Aqueduct on an after-the-Lord-Mayor's-Show day is race 6, the Grade 3 Temptress Stakes for two-year-old fillies over a mile on dirt. The once-raced Todd Pletcher-trained maiden winner Enchantress seems sure to attract plenty of betting action but has a stiffer task than the market may appreciate. Jacaranda is similarly promising (one run, one win, in a decent time), while Paulassilverlining is already a winner at Grade 2 level and Sunday Sonnet was a good fifth in a Grade 1 at Saratoga last time. All told, Enchantress will need to step up considerably on the form of her own Keeneland win, and in a race in which there promises to be plenty of pressure on the early pace. She can be opposed at the likely odds.
Trainer Brian Lynch looks to have found a good spot for his Candy Ride gelding Transcend in race 6 at Woodbine (due off at 20:33 GMT). The five-year-old has not won in nearly a year but has run plenty of good races in the interim, and this represents his easiest task since. Even his eighth of nine on this course last time was far from a poor effort, as he was beaten less than four lengths by the useful Iroquois Falls despite possibly racing closer to the lead than ideal. Transcend's narrow second to 100-rated Jack Pine the time before makes him the clear form pick in this.
