Timeform's US team pick out the best bets in North America on Wednesday.
"Some speedy types turn up for race 4 at Presque Isle Downs (due off at 23:40 BST), none speedier than Todd Beattie’s filly Taris..."
Trainer Patricia Farro looks to have found a good spot for her in-form four-year-old Defiant to continue his good work in the five-furlong turf Allowance that comes up second on the Delaware card (due off 18:43 BST). The son of Tiznow has won three and placed in three from nine starts this year and may not even have to run to his very best to enhance that record here. Fellow pacemaker Onthewhistle is a doubtful runner and would likely have his hands full with Defiant even if he turns up. Former Brit Floating Ballerino might have been of some interest at his best, but he does not look an out-and-out sprinter, and early speed is likely to prove vital here.
Some speedy types turn up for race 4 at Presque Isle Downs (due off at 23:40 BST), none speedier than Todd Beattie's filly Taris, who can dominate her rivals on her first excursion on a synthetic surface. She blitzed her opposition at Aqueduct and Laurel on her first two starts then might well have found an extended mile too far in elevated company at Oaklawn last time. A break since then means she is fresher than most for this, and at her best she looks to have a few lengths in hand. Haines City and J's Two Step Halo are likely to be close up early, but it could be Cindys Casino who gives Taris most to do at the business end.
Sweet Starlet and Bear's Pearl dominate the Morning Line for the opener at Woodbine, a six-furlong fillies and mares claimer due off at 23:45 BST. By our reckoning, Bear's Pearl deserves to be clear favourite, coming into this seeking a hat-trick at this course and likely to get her preferred prominent position without too much hassle in this six-runner field. Sweet Starlet has contested better races, but her recent improvement came to an end last time when only third. She also tends to take a while to get going, by which time Bear's Pearl might well have flown. With the majority of the sextet in some sort of form of late, it should be possible to secure reasonable odds about Bear's Pearl.
