Timeform's US team pick out three from Belmont on Wednesday.
"At first glance, the race that Accomplish First won last time looks a very similar contest to this one, but closer inspection reveals it to have been considerably weaker..."
Chad Brown is now firmly established as one of America's foremost trainers, and his ability to improve horses acquired from other barns is one of the reasons that he's now in the top echelon. Hushhushmushmush made his debut for Brown last time, having previously been in the care of Richard Violette, and immediately produced a leap forward on Timeform form ratings. It's fair to say that this lightly-raced type is still open to more progression for his new barn, and it will be disappointing if he can't break his maiden in race 4 at Belmont (19:53 BST).
The following race at Belmont (20:24 BST) is an open-looking allowance race for New York-breds, with just about every one of the six starters in with some sort of chance. At first glance, the race that Accomplish First won last time looks a very similar contest to this one, but closer inspection reveals it to have been considerably weaker, and most won't realise that this is actually a significant step up in class for him. That race was contested by horses mostly rated in the mid-80's on Timeform form ratings, but this contest is mainly populated by horses in the mid-90's. Accomplish First looks a lay at anything around 3.814/5.
For the final selection, and best bet of the day, we turn once more to Chad Brown in race 7 at Belmont (21:26 BST). A really impressive winner of his only start to date, Venetian Mask looked very much a stakes performer in the making during that win, and he can take this allowance contest on his way to better things. That maiden win came at Parx, and there is the possibility that he may be slightly underestimated in the market because of that, with punters tending to favour New York form over the less fashionable venues. On Timeform form ratings, though, we know that Venetian Mask put up a useful performance that day, and has the scope to go on and become smart, at the very least.
