Timeform's US team head to Aqueduct to bring you three selections on Thanksgiving Day...
It's Thanksgiving Day in the US and punting options are quite limited for us on this side of the pond with only Aqueduct staging action on the exchange and all our three selections come from that venue. There are a few good value bets to be had on a decent card, and we kick off in the very first race (16:25 GMT) with Foxbeau, who ran poorly last time but was returning from a 242-day layoff there. With that run under her belt, Gary Gullo's charge should give a much better account in this weaker contest.
The fifth race (18:17 GMT) is an open-looking allowance event where it could pay to take a chance on the much-improved Slan Abhaile, who looks to be overpriced on the Morning Line. This four-year-old gelding looked potentially very useful at the back end of 2013 but rather lost his way in the early part of this year. However, his last two efforts have been much better, including last time when nearly making all at this venue while racing on what looked like the unfavoured inside part of the track.
The highlight of Aqueduct's card is the Grade 3 Fall Highweight Handicap, carded as race 8 (19:42 GMT), and unlike a lot of so-called handicaps in North America, the person or persons responsible for assigning the weights has actually done a reasonable job, with this looking quite open. However, La Verdad may have been let in lightly, receiving up to 8 lb from horses that she is almost the equal of on Timeform form-based ratings. This four-year-old filly has lots of early speed and could well get loose on the lead if breaking alertly.
