Timeform's US team pick out the best bets on Thursday.
"Our best bet of the day, Trawee, is also at Presque Isle Downs..."
For its level, the $5k claimer that opens Delaware's card at 18:15 BST is quite a decent event. There is one horse that stands out at the forecast prices, though, and that is Face the Fire. On Timeform form-based ratings, Face the Fire is the best of these, and is actually a consistent sort at his own level. His only disappointing runs in the last few months have come when he's been up against higher-priced claiming rivals. At nine years old, Face the Fire isn't as good as he once was, but our ratings suggest that his Morning Line price of 5.5 is underestimating his current ability.
Goethe looks worth taking on in race 2 at Presque Isle Downs (22:50 BST), up against several in-form rivals. There are four in this allowance contest who have all recorded better Timeform form ratings than Goethe, which makes his skinny Morning Line price look far from appealing. Throw in the fact that he's now been beaten no less than seven times at allowance level since breaking his maiden, and Goethe looks worth laying at anything up to 4.5.
Our best bet of the day, Trawee, is also at Presque Isle Downs (race 4 at 23:40 BST). This maiden event is considerably less competitive than the ones in which Trawee has been competing at Keeneland and Churchill Downs, and he should get off the mark at the fifth time of asking. The high-profile stables of Graham Motion and Jonathan Sheppard are doubly represented, which should ensure that Trawee goes off at reasonably fair price given the strength of his form.
