One of our US SmartPlays on Saturday runs at Woodbine

Timeform's US team focus on the racing from Keeneland and Woodbine on Saturday, bringing you three bets...

In contrast, forecast 4 chance Long River comes here on the back of a career-best effort last time in the Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont and down in grade he should get the ideal stalking trip looking at the likely pace scenario...

The fourth race at Keeneland (19:38 BST) is a two-year-old maiden over nine furlongs on the turf and looks to provide a good opportunity for Majestico to get off the mark. D Wayne Lukas's youngster has shown notably progressive form from start to start after commencing his career at Saratoga over an inadequate five and a half furlongs and last time out finished fourth in the Grade 3 Dixiana Bourbon Stakes. Suffice to say that's a decent level of form his opponents can't match and the Morning Line 3.5 looks generous.

At Woodbine the ninth race (22:08 BST) looks to provide a good opportunity for Cry War Eagle to follow up his win in a similar event over nine furlongs. He ran a recent best that day but this slightly shorter trip won't be an issue as he won twice over it at the end of 2013. He really ought to be favourite by some margin, so it's surprising to see Paradise Alley chalked in as the forecast market leader. That one might just get its own way in front but it will need everything in its favour as Cry War Eagle looks to have a fair bit in hand on form.

The Grade 2 Hagyard Fayette Stakes (22:13 BST) at Keeneland looks a competitive event on paper with little separating with the entire field on Timeform ratings, but dig a little deeper and it's not difficult to pick some holes in the form of nearly all the runners. So it is with forecast favourite Departing who finished a good third in the G1 Stephen Foster Handicap at Churchill Downs in June but has disappointed in two runs since including in a much lesser race than this last time. In contrast, forecast 4 chance Long River comes here on the back of a career-best effort last time in the Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont and down in grade he should get the ideal stalking trip looking at the likely pace scenario.
