Timeform's US team have found bets from Zia Park and Mountaineer on Monday...
On a day of slim pickings in the States, our first selection comes in race 5 at Zia Park (21:07 BST), a five-and-a-half furlong, $6.5k claimer. Magero has been running consistently well at around this level, finishing fourth on his last four starts, and he can finally get his head in front today. Despite that string of runner-up finishes, this four-year-old gelding hasn't been doing much wrong, and today's opposition is a little weaker, in form terms, than he has been facing of late.
Sharpest Ride has not really cut much ice in allowance company since breaking his maiden back in May, but can take full advantage of the drop into the claiming ranks in the closing race at Zia Park (23:55 BST). Sharpest Ride's trainer, Justin Evans, is particularly adept at placing his horses to maximise their chances of winning, so the drop into this $5k claimer is no real cause for alarm. Indeed, Sharpest Ride was only a cheap purchase, and this is probably the level he now belongs at, given that he couldn't cut the mustard in a higher grade.
The highlight of Mountaineer's evening card is race 2 (00:22 BST), a seven-and-a-half furlong allowance contest on the turf. Maid On a Mission has been competing in better company at the likes of Arlington Park and Churchill Downs, and should find tonight's company less taxing. A reproduction of either her win at Churchill in May, or her third in a G3 event at Arlington subsequently, would be good enough to win this event.
