Timeform's US team pick out the best bets on Monday.
"Plaska has been highly tried since breaking his maiden on debut at Louisiana Downs in the summer, and will appreciate the much less competitive surroundings of this $10k claimer."
Sam Houston Race 2, 19:27 GMT - Witt's Charm
Witt's Charm has been in decent form on the turf in recent times, and can take this $15k turf claimer. A second in a Remington Park allowance contest was followed up with a dull effort on the dirt, but there is little doubt that Witt's Charm is a much better horse away from the traditional US surface, as evidenced by her eighth-place finish in a$50k turf stakes race last time out. Her main danger may be Mirror Ball, who is by Notnowcato, and is still relatively unexposed on turf.
Sam Houston Race 4, 20:24 GMT - Plaska
Plaska has been highly tried since breaking his maiden on debut at Louisiana Downs in the summer, and will appreciate the much less competitive surroundings of this $10k claimer. Campaigned exclusively in stakes and allowance races since that debut, Plaska has performed creditably at times without suggesting he was up to winning at that kind of level. This claimer looks like an ideal place for him to record a second career victory.
Sam Houston Race 5, 20:50 GMT - Rangey
A Morning Line price of 12/1 seems to underestimate Rangey's chances in this contest, his turf form at the likes Gulfstream Park West and the New York tracks looking more than a match for the kind of foes he faces in this $15k claimer. There is a slight doubt over the five-furlong trip - most of Rangery's better form has been over further - but he doesn't look short of pace, and with several front-runners in the field, should get this run to suit.
