Timeform's US team bring you their three best bets for Friday night's stateside action...
"Gently Spun broke his maiden in a weak contest last time out, but only scraped home by a nose and this particular event is of a better standard..."
Today's first selection comes in race 5 at Belmont (20:09 BST), a one-mile allowance optional claimer, on the turf. In a race that features plenty of exposed types, along with horses who are better suited to dirt, Helm makes plenty of appeal. Having had only nine races, this four-year-old son of Henrythenavigator still has plenty of upside, and was unlucky not to finish closer last time out at Saratoga having been trapped three and four wide most of the way.
Over at Woodbine, Gently Spun looks worth taking on in race 5 (19:59 BST), a five-furlong claiming race, on the polytrack. Gently Spun broke his maiden in a weak contest last time out, but only scraped home by a nose and this particular event is of a better standard. His TimeformUS speed figure was modest that day, too, and there are at least two or three who could deny him the top spot here.
Brickyard Kitten was fourth in the aforementioned contest in which Helm finished third, and he has strong claims of taking race 8 at Belmont (21:45 BST), another one-mile allowance optional claimer. Tony Dutrow's charge went on to better that effort when second in a similar contest next time, and that sets a good standard in here. There isn't a great deal between Brickyard Kitten and Morning Line favourite Barrel of Love, but as an improving four-year-old, with fewer miles on the clock, Brickyard Kitten gets the vote.
