Timeform focus on the action at Monmouth on Friday, bringing you three bets...
Today's first bet comes in race 2 at Monmouth (18:20 BST), and features an in-form horse that runs first-off-the-claim for high-percentage trainer Jorge Navarro. Charlie Bull was third last time out at the same $6k claiming level as today, but now has the added advantage of the skills of Navarro, who is winning at 31% with his runners so far this year. A reproduction of that last run would be probably be good enough alone, but Charlie Bull is likely to exhibit some improvement, too, and looks a good bet.
Staying at Monmouth, and Scatter Joy has produced career bests in his last two starts, and according to the Timeform US Pace Projector, looks likely to benefit from an uncontested lead in race 3 (18:50 BST). This starter allowance race is weaker than the straight allowance contest that Scatter Joy finished third in last time, and that should enable him to record his fourth lifetime win from just ten starts. His main marker rival Define was third at Suffolk Downs last time, but this opposition is classier, and Scatter Joy is given a clear edge.
To complete a hat-trick of selections at Monmouth, it is worth backing a European import to triumph on her US debut in race 7 (20:56 BST). American Girl won her only start on Polytrack at Dundalk in February, and now runs in a turf allowance race over a mile. Being by High Chaparral, she should be in her element, and her new trainer Alan Goldberg has a good record with new acquisitions from Europe. This isn't a particularly strong race, and it will be disappointing if American Girl can't remain unbeaten.
