Timeform's US team have picked out the best North American bets on Friday.
"The final race at Hawthorne (22:55 GMT) is an open-looking dirt claimer, and it may pay to oppose Afleet Paddy..."
The opening race at Tampa Bay Downs (17:40 GMT), an $8k dirt claimer, has seen Our Burning Faith installed as 2/1 Morning Line favourite, but that could well be on the short side given that this one's best form has all been on a synthetic surface. Our Burning Faith has run on dirt five times and has been tailed off on four occasions. The one time she wasn't tailed off resulted in just a fifth-place finish, beaten over seven lengths. A lay at around 4.0 makes plenty of appeal here.
Georgie My Boy was an impressive winner of a claimer last time out, and was claimed from that contest by new trainer Tammy Domenosky, who has wasted no time in placing him into allowance company in race 8 at Hawthorne (22:25 GMT). Both Timeform form-based ratings and TimeformUS speed figures suggest that Georgie My Boy should have no trouble moving up to this class, and he is drawn favourably, just to the outside of his main pace rival.
The final race at Hawthorne (22:55 GMT) is an open-looking dirt claimer, and it may pay to oppose Afleet Paddy, who is probably better over further and on turf. Afleet Paddy's lack of early pace is likely to put him at a distinct disadvantage over this six-furlong trip, and he could be well doing his best work when the race is all but over. In a big field, there are plenty running for us.
