Timeform's US team pick out their three best bets for Thursday night's stateside action...
"With rain forecast in the area it may pay to look at horses that are proven under off-track conditions, and Run to the Limit fits that bill..."
Today's best bet comes in race 6 at Delaware (20:35 BST), a six-furlong, 10k claimer on the dirt. With rain forecast in the area it may pay to look at horses that are proven under off-track conditions, and Run to the Limit fits that bill. This Juan Vazquez-trained three-year-old broke his maiden at Laurel in March and has subsequently plied his trade in better races than this. The drop down is sure to suit, and with one of his better Timeform form ratings coming on a wet track in June, Run to the Limit looks perfectly suited to the likely conditions.
The sixth race at Presque Isle Downs (00:30 BST) is a six-furlong, $75k stakes race for two-year-olds, and can fall the way of the unbeaten Chilly Start. Both of Chilly Start's wins have come at this track, the most recent being an impressive two-length win over Pom Pom Pistol, who won an allowance event just a couple of days ago. With the prospect of more to come, Chilly Start is taken to have the edge over chief market rival Happy to Go.
There have been a series of staying events at Presque Isle Downs this summer, and they schedule another one as the closing race on tonight's card (01:20 BST), over the marathon distance of two and a quarter miles. With very few in the field likely to stay, the one to be with is Curmudgeon, who ran away with a similar race over a furlong less earlier this month, beating a couple of tonight's rivals. Strong at the finish that day, Curmudgeon should have no problem with this extra furlong and is taken to beat Helicopter and Aridus once more.
