Timeform's US team pick out their three best bets for Monday night's stateside action...
"The fourth race at Presque Isle Downs can fall the way of Sister Stella, who comes here after an impressive maiden win in a fast time..."
Today's first selection comes in the opener at Presque Isle Downs (22:25 BST), a six-and-a-half furlong allowance contest. Spelling Again has been second on her previous two starts in similar events, but bumped into good ones in each of those races. Last time out she was narrowly beaten by a filly that followed-up subsequently and before that was runner-up to Cactus Kris, who is now plying her traded in graded company. Today's opposition looks far less taxing and Spelling Again should go close.
The fourth race at Presque Isle Downs (23:40 BST) is a six-and-a-half furlong allowance optional claimer for two-year-olds and it can fall the way of Sister Stella, who comes here after an impressive maiden win in a fast time. That form was franked when the third horse won next time out, and Sister Stella looks likely to get a perfect stalking trip with at least two or three front runners in opposition. Pom Pom Pistol would appear to be the main danger but is now looking exposed after six starts.
Our final selection comes in the second race at Mountaineer (00:22 BST), a seven-furlong allowance event, on the turf. Polomint hasn't been seen since a fifth-place finish in a much stronger allowance contest on the Tapeta at Presque Isle Downs back in June, but is potentially a notch above today's opposition if ready after the layoff. Also a winner on turf, the surface switch should pose no problems, and some strong workouts at Keeneland suggest that Polomint is ready to capitalise on this drop in class.
