Timeform's US team pick out their three best bets for Monday night's stateside action...
"There is a good case to be made for Fear The Beard who has joined Jeffrey Radosevich since his latest effort at Gulfstream Park early last month..."
Turf Paradise 23:14 - Gypsy Rain
Fields are small at Turf Paradise and the meet only began a few weeks ago so a degree of caution is advised when striking bets, but there might be some value in siding with Gypsy Rain over forecast favourite Melissa's Shadow in the eighth race, a maiden claimer over five and a half furlongs. This California bred hasn't often helped herself by setting off too fast, but she looked more tractable last time when just denied, thirteen lengths clear of the rest. Melissa's Shadow is more exposed, and a bigger danger may be Afternoon Wedding who was well backed last time in the same race as Melissa's Shadow and finished a respectable fourth.
Zia Park 23:27 - Isn't He Clever
The feature at Zia Park is an allowance race over eight-and-a-half furlongs and features Isn't he Clever who has won three times this season, including the Sunland Park Handicap over this sort of trip back in April, and hasn't been out of the first three since July 2013 on what was his only try on the synthetic (as it was then) at Del Mar. He's one of the best horses on the South-Western desert circuit, as his latest win at Albuquerque testifies, and it's surprising to see him as long as 5 in the forecast betting. Morning Line favourite Forest Mouse was behind him that day and there seems no obvious reason why the placings should be reversed here.
Mountaineer 01:28 - Fear The Beard
In the fifth race at Mountaineer there is a good case to be made for Fear The Beard who has joined Jeffrey Radosevich since his latest effort at Gulfstream Park early last month. The son of Chapel Royal was below his best then, but his previous effort when beating much better opposition than he faces today at the Florida venue is stand-out form in this field and it's a tribute to his reliability that he has shown his form at a multitude of different racks over the last eighteen months, so his first run here shouldn't faze him. He tends to race handily, which is another positive in a contest where early pace looks thin on the ground.
