Bets Of The Day: Mondlicht could be a hoot for layers at Hexham

After a blank afternoon yesterday, Alan Dudman heads to Hexham and Lingfield for his bets on Tuesday, including another lay...

"He found nothing for pressure at the Devon track, beaten by Classic Colori - a horse he could have for breakfast at Southwell. Worryingly it was the same scenario a month later at Fontwell, and on both occasions he has traded at 1.31 in-running."

Lay Mondlicht @ 2.1011/10 in the 18:10 at Hexham and lay in-running @ 1.3130/100

17:40 Lingfield - Nomenklatura

It's a pity there are only seven runners in this, which makes the place market slightly unappealing, so it's a case of going win only with a filly who has yet to really get going.

Nomenklatura has run four times to date, but hasn't built on a promising effort on debut at Wolverhampton behind Starletina. She didn't look the biggest against the Godolphin filly that day, and there's a chance she just didn't pick up in soft ground at Doncaster last time, her action suggested so. So with a smallish frame and the mentioned action - I like her switching first time to the polytrack.

However, one angle I'm keen on here is another sire reference, and the sire in question is Archipenko. Quite a few of his horses like a trip, and they also have shown a real liking for poly'. Considering it is early days with the stallion, he has already produced 12 individual winners on the surface, so there's a big chance she can improve on anything we have seen so far.

18:10 Hexham - Mondlicht

With the name, Mondlicht could well have featured in Lord Rockingham XI's 'Hoots Mon', a chart hit back in 1958 - when hits were hits (one for the older reader) and bands were bands.

The horse himself clearly has ability; winning both his starts on the flat for Mark Johnston at Southwell. However, in his two hurdling runs to date, he's been well-backed both times at Fontwell and Newton Abbott - and in short, looks as though he doesn't fancy it.

He found nothing for pressure at the Devon track, beaten by Classic Colori - a horse he could have for breakfast at Southwell. Worryingly it was the same scenario a month later at Fontwell, and on both occasions he has traded at 1.3130/100 in-running.

On Tuesday, he steps up to 2m4f, and this staggers me. Hexham's finish isn't for a flashy ex-flat type, and one we've seen not able to get home at easier tracks. He might be around 2.1011/10 to back, and could trade a whole lot shorter in the run. You can choose the outright lay, or the braver route and get him even lower in-play.
