Bets of the Day: Duke to take top honours and Stonefield to get the week off to a Flyer

Can the Mark Johnston-trained Duke Street lead the way to the double?
Can the Mark Johnston-trained Duke Street lead the way to the double?

Still finding it hard to get over Castorienta not doing the business yesterday after being backed off the boards into 10/11, Alan Thompson has moved on to a quick fire double at Hamilton and Brighton for today's Bets of the Day...

"Mark Johnston is in great form at the minute and he is sending just the one runner to Brighton tomorrow, I am sure he isn't sending Duke Street all the way from Middleham just to make the numbers up"

Mark Johnston is in great form at the minute and he is sending just the one runner to Brighton on Tuesday, and I am sure he isn't sending Duke Street all the way from Middleham just to make the numbers up. Despite a weight increase for his recent Wolverhampton win he still has a featherweight to carry in this contest off a lowly mark of 57 and is at least proven over this trip, albeit on the AW. This looks a great opportunity for him to get his first win on the turf at a track that suits his prominent running style.

The main danger appears to come from Offshore who hasn't been out of the frame in his seven AW starts but has only one second place to show for his seven appearances on the turf. The trip is also a concern for Offshore as he has only once been tried beyond 1m 2f where he weakened in the final two furlongs, finishing sixth of eight runners.

Hamilton 16:15 - Stonefield Flyer to win 3/1 Sportsbook

Stonefield Flyer will always be held in high regard by the Keith Dalgleish team after finishing second to Frederick Engels in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot in 2011. While he suffered setbacks after that, they seem to be getting a good tune out of him at present. Just five days ago he was just touched off over C&D by Spirit of Zeb and the week before that he was a comfortable winner here, as he quickened up nicely to win by over a length under Fergal Lynch again over this trip.

At 3/1 on the Sportsbook I think he is the value in the race where Cloak and Degas looks the best of four runners sent from the Scott Dixon yard, but he is still a maiden after nine starts. Next in the betting is Danot who did show some promise at Pontefract last time out over this trip but has yet to get his head in front in five attempts over this distance.
