Michele Strogoff is best forgiven his fading fifth in a Lingfield handicap recently - a rare below-par effort from a fairly reliable performer - after doing too much too soon. Prior to that, Michael Appleby's charge had been shaping as though still in good form and, with this race likely to be run to suit, the three-time C&D winner must hold major claims off what looks a winnable mark.

Flora Tristan again ran creditably when third at Lingfield recently but rarely makes life easy for herself and is difficult to fancy here for a yard who have struggled for winners of late. Ivan Furtado's charge is looking to break her maiden at the twentieth time of asking and there are a few others that make more appeal in this field.

Honorable hasn't quite lived up to expectations under Gary Moore after being a fairly useful performer on the Flat in France. He is entitled to step up on his fourth at Kempton on reappearance, however, and should be suited by the extra distance here. The four-year-old has been tried in some relatively deep races since joining Moore and this could be more within his remit, so a decent showing is expected in first-time cheekpieces.
