Ribchester has progressed into the best miler in Europe over the last couple of seasons and was better than ever when bolting up in the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury last time. A consistent and likable sort, he should take all the beating here. Lightning Spear chased the selection home last time and looks a solid place contender again in the race he was third in last season, while Mutakayyef holds similar claims.
One of the most anticipated clashes of the meeting between 2000 Guineas 1-2 Churchill and Barney Roy, who may have this race between them given how far clear they are of the rest of the field on Timeform ratings. Barney Roy had plenty go wrong for him at Newmarket (only the third run of his career) and only has a length to find with Churchill, so looks the better bet at the prices. Thunder Snow can follow the pair home.
Aidan O'Brien won this race in 2015 and his Declarationofpeace could be the one to be with here. He has a hefty price tag to live up to, but he looked every inch a top prospect when emphatically landing the odds at Dundalk last month. He's bred for further, but clearly isn't short on pace and he's preferred to the promising once-raced Wesley Ward-trained duo Elizabeth Darcy and Nootka Sound.
