All roads lead to Newmarket today as the flat season kicks in to gear. Nick Shiambouros returns with two strong fancies from HQ...
"I think this likeable individual is open to significant improvement, and is fairly priced at [4.1] on the exchange"
History Writer should go close in this interesting maiden.
This Canford Cliffs colt created a favourable impression on debut when finishing third to Rum Runner at Sandown last September. He missed the break, but ran on strongly inside the final furlong and finished the race with good energy. I think this likeable individual is open to significant improvement, and is fairly priced at [4.1] on the exchange.
Porth Swtan merits consideration. He was kept busy as a two-year-old racing six times. He ended last season with a second place finish behind Maghaweer over this course. The Hills stable is in super form at present, and this colt brings a solid level of form to the table. At present he is trading at [5.6] on the exchange.
Mildenberger is my idea of the winner of this intriguing Listed contest.
This colt finished an excellent third to Roaring Lion in the Royal Lodge over this course last September. He was headed a furlong from home, but kept on well enough to hold on to a place. He also finished third to the smart Expert Eye in the Vintage at Goodwood, which reads well in the context of this race. I think he will appreciate the ease in grade and is fairly priced at [3.15] on the exchange.
Aiden O'Brien sends out Kew Gardens who is trading at [3.0] on the exchange. He won a Listed race over this course last October, and is the obvious danger to the selection. He will win races, but I think the selection sets the standard.
