Alan's best bet of the day obliged at 7/2 yesterday putting him back ahead for the week. Today's selections come from Southwell and Kempton where Alan is attempting a double as well as two singles...
"Crosse Fire has run here three times, winning once in a better quality race than this and looks well in on his return to his favourite surface."
Scott Dixon is a specialist trainer at Southwell and has 15 declared runners there today, there is sure to be one or two winners in their somewhere and while he has two good chances in the 14:00 Nursery race it was Crosse Fire in the 14:30 five furlong handicap that appealed to me most.
Last time out Crosse Fire ran below par and was beaten by Loumarin at Wolverhampton over this trip. However, Loumarin is encountering the fibresand for the first time and Crosse Fire has run here three times, winning once in a better quality race than this and looks well in on his return to his favourite surface.
Pensax Lad is a four-year-old grey who has won four times on the all weather but has yet to get his head in front at Kempton (won at Southwell, Lingfield, Chelmsford and Wolves), he has though been getting closer finishing second on both his outings. Beaten under two lengths over six furlongs and less than a length last time over five.
Last time out at Chelmsford City he ran a career best when winning a five furlong event, that success has landed him a penalty to carry today but the in form Ronald Harris has given the ride to the capable 5lb claimer Gary Mahon to negate that increase.
I am also going to back both selections at 10/3 and 11/2 in a half point Each Way double on the Sportsbook.
