Bigger field sizes make Towcester the best option for today's attempt at the Placepot...
"The winner of that Ludlow race went on to score under a penalty next time out which did the form no harm with Dardanella also comfortably accounting for the re-opposing Rosa Fleet"
14:30 - Hard to see Nicky Henderson's Laurium out of the frame in the first leg of today's Placepot. After winning a Ludlow bumper at the beginning of the season he posted a respectable effort behind Clean Sheet (Now Timeform Rated 144p) at Newbury, with the likes of Great Try (now 129) also involved, this is far better form than anything else on offer here and he is expected to win.
15:00 - Alan King seems to be getting to grips with course winner Dardanella based on her improved run at Ludlow last time after posting poor efforts on her first two runs for the yard. The winner of that Ludlow race went on to score under a penalty next time out which did the form no harm with Dardanella also comfortably accounting for the re-opposing Rosa Fleet, a 2lb swing in the weights is not expected to be enough to reverse those placings today. Blameitonmyroots also has an obvious chance and ought to uphold form from his Ludlow win over A Shade of Bay, the third from that race won next time out and both horses could be capable off higher marks today.
15:30 - A trappy event to say the least in which Lord Landen could possibly be the least risky option based on the fact he is returning to his last winning mark and should appreciate the better ground here compared what he has been running on recently. Wicklewood is some 9lb higher than his last winning mark but his chasing record at the track is hard to ignore and he could run in to a place at a bigger price.
16:00 - Nick Kent sent out a winner at Market Rasen yesterday and saddles Lost In Newyork in this race, previously a winner off 5lb higher he may not be on an obviously good mark, but a repeat of his fifth over C&D in a hotter contest than this in April last year would give him excellent place claims in an open race where the improved ground is sure to help. Easydoesit has been unreliable since winning a Doncaster novices' handicap hurdle off this mark in some style last season. He is turned out quickly after pulling up on his reappearance, but if coming on for that could also have place claims.
16:30 - Cosway Spirit bolted up off this mark in this race last year before seemingly reaching his limit based on his subsequent poor performances, he will need to perform significantly better than he did last time out but a 6lb drop in the weights and the return of David Bass should see him give a better account. In such a tricky race it could also be useful to include Tinelyra who was a promising second on her reappearance over C&D last time and will go close if building on that from the same mark.
17:00 - AP McCoy has an excellent record when riding for Neil Mulholland, so Irish point winner Fingerontheswitch immediately catches the eye as an interesting contender in this bumper, with his extra racing experience a big positive considering he faces a field comprised of plenty of newcomers.
