"Mini Mine Mo narrowly missed out last time when beaten just a head, and can go one better today in this $5k claimer. "
Sam Houston race 2, 19:27 GMT - Mini Mine Mo
Mini Mine Mo narrowly missed out last time when beaten just a head, and can go one better today in this $5k claimer. That was a good first effort on the Sam Houston dirt by this son of Kentucky Derby winner Giacomo, after he'd previously been running creditably at the likes of Churchill Downs and Oaklawn. Triple Double was three lengths behind Mini Mine Mo last time, and may get closer, but should struggle to reverse the form.
Sam Houston race 8, 22:08 GMT - Shine On Bruiser
Shine On Bruiser has been in good form in his last two starts, winning once and finishing well when third last time, and has a strong chance in this 6.5 furlong allowance contest. Both those two previous starts were over six furlongs, but Shine On Bruiser is equally, if not more, effective over this slightly longer trip. Morning Line favourite Last Man in Town is unexposed after just three turf starts, but he needs to prove himself on a dirt surface against some hardened campaigners.
Sam Houston race 10, 23:00 GMT - Twinlight Rose
A fascinating maiden rounds off the Sam Houston card, and while unlikely to go off anywhere near her 12/1 Morning Line odds, Twilight Rose could still be a spot of value. Previously trained by Bob Baffert and now in the care of Steve Asmussen, Twilight Rose has made just one start, when down the field at Los Alamitos, but that was a strong contest, and this maiden is much weaker in form terms. She does have a layoff to overcome, but that is rarely a negative with runners from this stable.
