Timeform pick out three bets from the first day of the Dante Festival at York on Wednesday...
"She had looked a potentially useful prospect when making a winning debut at Windsor in October..."
Magical Memory - York 15:15
Magical Memory improved with each and every start on the Flat last summer and ended the campaign with a career-best effort when third in the Group 1 Sprint Cup at Haydock, just losing second in the final furlong after a sustained duel with the winner Twilight Son. The conditions of this race mean that he faces that rival on 5 lb better terms and - a smooth winner of the Group 3 Abernant Stakes on his return at Newmarket last month - he also has the advantage of a recent run to his name. Magical Memory remains with the potential to establish himself as one of the best sprinters on the domestic front this summer and he can set himself up for another tilt at the highest level with a verdict over the penalised Twilight Son here.
So Mi Dar - York 15:45
The beautifully-bred So Mi Dar maintained her unbeaten record with a comfortable victory in the Derby Trial at Epsom last month and the form of that contest could hardly have worked out any better, with the second and third both scoring in pattern company on their next starts. She had looked a potentially useful prospect when making a winning debut at Windsor in October and confirmed that view with a comfortable defeat of the boys on her most recent start, despite jockey Frankie Dettori dropping his whip with plenty of running still to be done. She faces a far stiffer examination of her Oaks credentials here, but So Mi Dar can consolidate her lofty position in the market for that race with a defeat of the 1000 Guineas fourth Fireglow.
Fast Pick - York 17:20
Fast Pick showed only fair form in six starts for the Charlie Hills yard and ended the last campaign with the worst performance of her career to date, finishing a never dangerous ninth at Chelmsford in October. However, she has proved a different proposition since joining Keith Dalgleish and returned from six months off the track with an impressive victory at Wolverhampton, heavily eased and value for more than the official winning margin. A winner of her next start over the same C&D, she has another 6 lb penalty for that victory to contend with here, but the form of that effort looks even better now (second has won both her subsequent starts) and Fast Pick is fancied to see off the attentions of Prendergast Hill in her hat-trick bid.
