Timeform pick out their three best bets from Brighton and Newcastle on Thursday...
Purple Party - Brighton 15:25
The first division of the mile-and-a-quarter handicap at Brighton can go to Purple Party who was tenacious at the finish when scoring over a mile at the track last time. Three-year-old Purple Party is still unexposed after five starts and has run well both her handicap outings since switching to the Gary Moore stable (from George Margarson), also finishing fourth at 50/1 in July, again over eight furlongs at Brighton. There should be more to come from her now upped in trip and she looks poised to strike again from just a 1 lb higher mark (was narrowly out the weights last time).
Open The Red - Brighton 16:30
Open The Red hasn't put his best foot forward in a couple of runs this year, including back over a more suitable 11 furlongs at Kempton last time, but he did travel well for a long way when seventh of 15 to Charlie Bear that day and could just be working his way back to full fitness. Open The Red is also now 2 lb lower than when third in a valuable Glorious Goodwood handicap won by Dartmouth last summer, and could take some stopping back in 0-75 company. He also has the added bonus of Jim Crowley taking over on his back.
Ypres - Newcastle 17:55
The second division of the five-furlong handicap at Newcastle could see Ypres have his day again, as he's off a good mark (5 lb lower on all-weather than turf) and will be ridden by Luke Morris. Ypres has won off a 10 lb higher mark on grass at Carlisle last year, and it's certainly not conclusive that he's not the same horse on artificial surfaces; indeed, he won at Southwell as a three-year-old in 2012. Ypres ran a cracker when third to Salvatore Fury at Catterick on his penultimate and wasn't seen to best effect when tenth of 20 to Caeser The Gaeser at Redcar last time, not getting a clear run approaching the final furlong and finishing with running left.
