Timeform pick out bets from Ayr and Chelmsford on Thursday...
"John Best has really hit form recently and Whitstable Pearl may well provide him with another winner here."
Siren's Cove - 16:15
A 1lb rise in the weights for Siren's Cove's second to Playful Sound at York in July looks lenient considering that one impressively defied a 6 lb higher mark next time out. She has been off since, but looks interesting here with Adam McNamara taking off a valuable 5 lb. Apres Midi, Age of Elegance and Sattelac all won last time out, and look the key dangers in what is a competitive affair.
Almodovar - 16:50 Ayr
This represents a big drop in class for Almodovar, who was unable to confirm the promise of his good third in the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot (behind Dartmouth) under a switch to more patient tactics in the International at York last time. If racing more prominently this time, he should be seen to better effect here, with this likely to be his optimum trip based on the way he travelled at Ascot (still going well in the straight when plenty were under pressure before being outstayed over a mile and a half). Sir Michael Stoute's unexposed Abdon is the obvious danger after he pulled well clear of the field with the second in a handicap at Haydock last time.
Whitstable Pearl - 18:20 Chelmsford
Despite her speedy pedigree Whitstable Pearl shapes as though she will stay further than a mile and a half, and is interesting here upped in trip and returning to the scene of her only win to date. She was better than ever when second at Lingfield last time behind a subsequent winner, and a 3 lb rise in the weights for that looks lenient given the pair were clear of the rest. John Best has really hit form recently and Whitstable Pearl may well provide him with another winner here. Free Bounty won here over two miles last week, and although that was a messy affair, he probably rates the biggest danger here under a penalty.
