Timeform pick out three bets from Goodwood and Sandown on Thursday...
"He has since won over hurdles on the final day of the jumps season at Sandown - his third win from four starts in that sphere..."
Wolf of Windlesham - Goodwood 14:55
Wolf of Windlesham was a comfortable winner of his most recent outing on the Flat at Kempton in March, improving for the step up to two miles and giving the impression he would be suited by an even stiffer test of stamina. He has since won over hurdles on the final day of the jumps season at Sandown - his third win from four starts in that sphere - and the useful level of form he showed there suggests he could yet prove far better than a BHA mark of 70 on the Flat. Indeed, he heads the field on Timeform ratings here and - open to more improvement as a stayer - Wolf of Windlesham is fancied to see off the attentions of another useful hurdler in the shape of Kingwell Hurdle winner Rayvin Black.
The Black Princess - Goodwood 16:00
The Black Princess showed her inexperience when narrowly failing to maintain her unbeaten record at Nottingham last time, off the bridle a long way from home and just unable to reel in the more streetwise Mirsaalah. However, she should have learnt plenty from that effort and it's better to focus on the striking change of gear she showed to pull some 14 lengths clear of the rest of the field. The reopposing winner did little for the form when tailed-off at Chester last time, but entries in the Oaks and Coronation Stakes suggest The Black Princess is highly-regarded by her powerful connections and she can establish herself as a smart prospect with a defeat of the equally promising Zaakhir.
Recognition - Sandown 18:25
Recognition returned from four months off the track with a career-best effort at Wolverhampton in March, opening his account at the eighth time of asking and appearing to relish the step up to a trip in excess of 1¼m for the first time. He defied a 5 lb hike in the weights to follow up on his next start at Lingfield and the way he powered clear in the closing stages suggests this longer trip should be within his range. He is yet to be competitive in five previous starts on turf but - given time to grown into his sizeable frame - Recognition has simply looked a more professional model of late and he can show how far he has come by getting the better of the beautifully-bred City of Ideas here.
