It's back down to earth after Frankel's scintillating display yesterday but there are still winners to be found and Timeform's SmartPlays team believe they've found three...
Still green that day, Ashiri remains open to improvement, unlike most of his rivals, and can record his first career success
Richard Fahey has enjoyed a fantastic start to the season with highlights being the Palace House win of Mayson and the Chester Vase victory of Mickdaam, and the Musley Bank trainer has an excellent chance of landing the mile handicap Ripon with both Honeymead and Polar Kite (15:40) engaged. Despite stable jockey Tony Hamilton riding the former, it's the latter that is of most interest as he goes well fresh, is effective under conditions, and may have more to offer this year having only seen the track, albeit recording two wins, last term. Yard apprentice Shane B Kelly is good value for his claim and he can ride Polar Kite to his second course-and-distance handicap success.
Cheltenham Gold Cup and Grand National-winning combination Tony McCoy and Jonjo O'Neill are top rider and trainer respectively at Market Rasen and the pair can combine successfully with fencing debutant O'Callaghan Strand in the handicap chase due off at 16:00. Winner of a pair of two-and-half-mile hurdle races last May and June, O'Callaghan Strand has presumably been saved for a summer campaign and coming to the race fresh could well be in his favour. A BHA rating of 104 looks fair (Timeform rating of 102 over timber) and he looks too big at around 5.24/1.
Back at Ripon, the booking of William Buick aboard David Simcock's unexposed handicapper Ashiri (16:10) takes the eye in an 11-runner race over ten furlongs. Ashiri was runner-up over the trip when with Sir Michael Stoute last year and confirmed that promise on his first outing for his current yard when equal-fourth of 13 to Stand To Reason at Newbury on his handicap bow a month ago. Still green that day, Ashiri remains open to improvement, unlike most of his rivals, and can record his first career success.
