Timeform pick out three bets from Exeter and Southwell on Sunday...
"Captain Revelation was beaten just a short head here on his second start as a juvenile, and he produced another solid effort on his return to this track..."
Flowers On Venus - Southwell 15:20
Ballista is a contender for this good-quality sprint handicap, but Flowers On Venus was very well backed when making a winning debut in a six-furlong maiden at Wolverhampton nearly eight weeks ago and could just be a cut above his rivals here. Flowers On Venus is well bred (by Raven's Pass out of very smart performer at up to twelve furlongs Chelsea Rose) and had cost €220,000 as a foal, but he was unraced for Shadwell in France and was picked up for just £12,500 by his new connections in November, giving them an instant return at Dunstall Park. An opening mark of 80 looks fair for Flowers On Venus, for all he didn't beat much on his first start, and he can give the David Evans yard yet another winner this winter.
Midnight Prayer - Exeter 15:40
2014 National Hunt Chase winner Midnight Prayer is more straightforward than the majority of his rivals in this veteran's handicap chase and has sound prospects of recording a seventh career success following his much more convincing performance when runner-up to Russe Blanc in the Classic Chase at Warwick last month. That performance was particularly good given Midnight Prayer had been forced to miss the Welsh Grand National the previous week, and he remains of interesting for staying handicaps from a 2 lb higher mark. Richard Johnson coming in for the ride catches the eye too given he has a 36% strike rate for the Alan King yard over the last five seasons (rode Smad Place to recent success).
Captain Revelation - Southwell 15:50
Captain Revelation was beaten just a short head here on his second start as a juvenile, and he produced another solid effort on his return to this track six weeks ago when five lengths second of nine to Zaeem in a handicap over this distance of seven furlongs (fourth Queen Aggie won next time). Captain Revelation shaped better than the bare result that day too, faring best of those ridden prominently in a race run at a sound pace, and he could be worth chancing to go one place better from the same mark.
